Indira Gandhi was born on into the politically influential Nehru Family. Her father was Jawaharlal Nehru and her mother was Kamala Nehru. Indira gained the surname “Gandhi” by her marriage to Feroze Gandhi. She was an Indian politician and the leader of the Indian National Congress . She was the third Prime Minister of the Republic of India for three consecutive terms from 1966 to 1977 and for a fourth term from 1980 until her death in 1984, a total of fifteen years. After Morarji Desai’s resignation, Indira Gandhi assumed the Finance portfolio. So far, she has been the only woman Finance Minister.
